HOW I STARTED MY BUSINESS AT 
15-YEARS OLD

WHERE THE MINDSET CAME FROM:

Ever since I could remember,  I was always taught, that you had to work for whatever you wanted. Since the age of Five, my dad would always take me to work with him. He owned a tree trimming company and would pay me 5 dollars every time I would go to work with him. I would wake up at 5:30 am, and get home at around 4 pm. Going to work every day made me realize that for you to buy what you wanted, you had to put in the work to obtain it. I can't thank my Dad enough for taking me, even though I hated going because I would have to wake up super early every morning, I see now at the age of 17 why he made me go through that. That work-hard mindset was DRILLED into my head and I'm glad it was. I now have a successful window cleaning company that is not only helping me save up for college but also teaching my 10-year-old brother the same mindset that was taught to me. When I wash windows I always think about what my dad told me when I was 12 "La calidad se recuerda mucho después de que el precio se olvida" which translates to "Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten". That's why I shoot for customer satisfaction over anything else. I do this by teaching all my staff members that quality over quantity is the most important thing .

HOW NOVA STARTED

The summer of 2022 marked a significant turning point in my life. During that season, I found myself employed as a lifeguard, earning a modest $8.25 per hour, and I Hated every moment of it. Enduring the scorching Houston heat, my daily routine consisted of sitting on the stand and watching people swim. The breaking point came when, in the guard room, a friend informed me it was my turn to return to the stand. As I headed there, a parent approached, requesting assistance in unclogging a toilet. That was the moment I decided I had had enough.

 

Upon returning home that day, I turned to TikTok to explore potential side hustles for a 15-year-old. The idea that captured my attention was painting people's addresses on their curbs to enhance visibility. I had a game plan to go door-to-door in my neighborhood, offering this service. At first, i was nervous, but I realized that to grow you had to step out of your comfort zone. Despite earning only $20 per curb, I searched for a  better opportunity and discovered window cleaning on TikTok. Excited about its potential, I acquired equipment from The Home Depot, applying the sales skills I had learned through door-to-door sales.

With a singular goal in mind—saving for college—I would go door-knocking from 3 pm until sunset. Each "No" received strengthened my resolve, and landing my first job, which paid $100, was an exciting achievement for me.

 

Fast forward to today; I am on the verge of graduating high school in 2024. The most crucial lesson learned is the value of quality over quantity. Delivering high-quality, professional service has been the key to setting myself apart.
